Balduin Schwarz (1902-1993) had a long and distinguished career as an outstanding teacher and scholar in Europe and America. He made significant contributions to the history of philosophy, value theory, and ethics, particularly by his analysis of gratitude. A number of his friends and students have contributed essays to this volume in honor of his memory.
